WER Architects worked with the Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau to transform Finley Vinson Plaza, a prominent public space located between the DoubleTree Hotel and Robinson Center in downtown Little Rock. The project created a more vibrant, welcoming, and connected civic space that supports events, enhances pedestrian experiences, and strengthens the plaza’s role as a gateway to downtown and the Riverfront.

The centerpiece of the redesign was a new outdoor pavilion, which officially opened in Fall 2025. Designed to support performances by the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and other acts performing at Robinson Center, the pavilion extended the performance experience beyond the walls of the convention center. The addition activated the plaza, created opportunities for informal gathering and entertainment, and established a new destination within this important corner of downtown.

The project also revitalized the surrounding plaza by replacing deteriorated and outdated brick pavers with reimagined landscape areas, new lighting, and other site enhancements. These improvements created a more cohesive and inviting public realm while providing a comfortable and engaging setting for visitors and events throughout the day and evening.

The redesign strengthened the pedestrian connection between downtown and Riverfront Park by emphasizing and improving the existing path from Markham Street. Enhanced circulation, landscape, and lighting created a safer and more visually engaging route for pedestrians while better connecting the plaza to Little Rock’s riverfront amenities.

Together, these improvements transformed Finley Vinson Plaza into a more active, accessible, and memorable downtown destination. Through a combination of event programming, landscape improvements, pedestrian connectivity, and thoughtful public-space design, WER helped create an elevated experience for residents, visitors, performers, and everyone who passes through this important part of downtown Little Rock.
