MALSTROM WHITE
CORPORATE OFFICES
WER Architects designed a new facility for Malstrom White Lighting Company that serves as both a functional corporate workplace and a showcase for the company’s diverse lighting product lines. The design balances office, display, storage, and gathering spaces while creating a distinctive environment that reflects the company’s work and provides a welcoming experience for employees and clients.
A defining feature of the building is its large, single-sloped roof plane, which creates a dramatic vaulted ceiling over the open office area. The elevated volume allows clerestory windows to introduce abundant natural daylight into the workspace, creating a bright and comfortable environment while highlighting the architectural character of the interior.
The building’s split-level site was used strategically to maximize both functionality and long-term flexibility. Approximately 4,000 square feet of walk-out storage space is located below the main office level, providing convenient storage for lighting products and samples while also creating opportunities for future expansion. This approach allowed WER to make efficient use of the existing topography without increasing the building’s overall footprint.
Along the south façade, a wall of glass encloses the private offices and provides expansive views toward the mature tree line beyond the property. These connections to the surrounding landscape bring a sense of nature into the workplace and provide a more engaging environment for employees throughout the day.
The main conference room extends directly to a large outdoor deck, creating a casual gathering space for staff breaks, informal meetings, and entertaining clients. The deck strengthens the connection between the interior workplace and the surrounding landscape while providing an additional setting for collaboration and social interaction.
