FIRE STATION #8
CITY OF ROGERS
WER designed the new Fire Station No. 8 for the City of Rogers, creating a modern, highly functional facility tailored to the operational needs, health, and safety of the city’s firefighters. The two-story, 10,600-square-foot station provides three apparatus bays and a comprehensive range of residential, administrative, training, and support spaces, including eight bedrooms, a kitchen and dining area, living spaces, four workspaces, an exercise room, restrooms, and a patio and outdoor training area.
A key focus of the design was the health and safety of the firefighters who occupy the facility around the clock. The station incorporates dedicated gear storage, locker, and decontamination areas that are physically separated from the primary living spaces. This separation helps limit firefighters’ exposure to carcinogens and contaminants that can accumulate on protective equipment during emergency response. The thoughtful organization of work and living areas creates a healthier residential environment while supporting efficient station operations.
The design also prioritizes rapid response. A strategically located fire pole provides direct access from the living areas to the apparatus bays, allowing firefighters to quickly transition from the residential portion of the station to their vehicles when responding to an emergency. The overall layout was developed to balance efficient circulation with the day-to-day needs of a 24-hour fire station.
Architecturally, the station combines contemporary building performance with the familiar character associated with traditional fire stations. A precast concrete panel exterior with brick masonry inlay creates an efficient building envelope while maintaining a durable, civic presence that complements the surrounding community. The design draws inspiration from historic fire station precedents while providing a modern facility equipped to meet the operational demands of today’s fire service.
The completed Fire Station No. 8 provides the City of Rogers with an attractive, durable, and efficient public safety facility that supports emergency response while prioritizing firefighter wellness, safety, and quality of life.
