WER Architects designed the new Science Center at Arkansas State University-Beebe as a central academic hub that physically and visually connects the historic southern portion of campus with the newer northern campus area. Strategically located at the center of campus, the facility strengthens the relationship between these two areas while providing a modern environment dedicated to science education, research, and student collaboration.

The Science Center includes eight specialized science teaching laboratories, 16 classrooms, a computer learning center, faculty office suites, and a state-of-the-art lecture hall. The laboratory program supports a broad range of scientific disciplines, including Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Physical Science, and Physics. The variety of spaces allows the facility to support both foundational science instruction and more specialized coursework.

Flexibility and hands-on learning were key components of the laboratory design. Physics classrooms feature flexible furnishings and an overhead support grid that allow students and instructors to easily reconfigure the space and conduct a variety of scientific experiments. Organic Chemistry laboratories incorporate glass-backed laboratory hoods that enhance safety while maintaining visual connections between instructors and students. Chemistry laboratories also provide individual lockable student storage cabinets, giving students dedicated space for laboratory materials and equipment.

The combination of flexible classrooms, specialized laboratories, technology-enabled learning spaces, and collaborative areas creates an environment designed around active and experiential learning. Faculty offices and shared academic spaces are integrated into the facility to encourage interaction between students and instructors and support the broader academic community.
